Great steel and quick shipping. On a previous order there was a lag in shipping but customer service was fast to respond and explain the issue at the time. Will continue to buy steel from this company. I have had very bad experiences with other companies recently, mostly with not receiving actual damascus steel and ending up with no pattern after forging. Has never happened when ordering from Alec steel. Thank you!

This was my first time making a knife but I had no problems whatsoever with this steel.

Awesome metal to work with. Great contrast!!

Perfect material for San Mai or Damascus! I had some trouble with my shipping and Alec Steele Co. promptly took care of it.

Thanks this was from the 1080 and the 15n20 that I purchased and my first Damascus that I was able to make something from. Thanks again

Made a straight razor out of one of these, and it's superb quality, and I'd happily buy it again

I recently ordered a stack of 1080 carbon steel and a block of ironwood burl for a small project and couldn’t be happier , I got these items delivered to the Republic of Ireland and was pleasantly surprised with how quick the delivery was
Every item was carefully wrapped and safely secured as to not get damaged during shipping , would definitely recommend

Truly amazing to see the quality of even the package, this is not my last time I'm ordering from Alec Steele Co.! The billets look beautiful, and I cannot wait to start my journey of making knives!!

Great product! This is the second time I’ve ordered this product and it’s just as good as the first!

Nice 1080 steel. Looking forward to building knives. I like ordering from Alec Steele Co. because they get their orders out fast and provide great communication throughout the process.

Great product!!! Thanks Alec!!

I am completely satisfied with the other items purchased as they were exactly as advertised. I was a bit bummed that the 1080 High Carbon steel was supposed to be 7.75”x2” but it came the same size as the 15N20 which was 5.6”x1.5”.
I have yet to have time to play with any of my orders yet, but hope that will change by the weekend. I’m hoping to purchase one of your awesome anvils and the blacksmithing hammer as soon as they become available again. Hopefully by the end of the year, I’ll be able to purchase one of the ovens (haven’t decided which yet) and the 2”x48” grinder. I appreciate your you tube videos as I have learned so much. Now I just need to get my hands dirty.

10-pack of 1080 steel--packaged well, arrived in 3 days. Clean and flat and square.

The precut lengths of 1080 save me a lot of prep time. I don’t have to focus on cutting materials I can just start forging or grinding on my project.

Exactly what i needed!

This steel is great especially for someone like me who’s just getting started and can only do stock removal until I get everything I need for my forge. Some other places I’ve ordered steel from have hardened ends from cutting but you don’t have to worry about anything like that with these. Plus, Alec Steele Co customer service is hands down the best. I’ll definitely be ordering more.

After watching Will's video on making a knife at home, we decided to give it a try and ordered our steel from the Alec Steele co. It arrived faster than we expected and was packaged safe and secure! It is shaping up to be a fun little project!

flat and straight

Originally, suffered from some confusion while ordering, but thanks to customer support, I was graciously taken care of. Steel is nice and straight, and drilled well, and grinds well, so it’s plenty soft enough to work with. If I could get some thicker, and maybe longer materials, I would buy my steel exclusively through Alec and his team. Will definitely buy again for blades under 7.5 inch overall length @1/8 inch.

Easy checkout, fast shipping. Helped me start a dream I never thought I could.

Quick and easy transaction. I wanted to experiment doing a hidden tang and maybe a folder. These small bars are perfect for it. Couldn't be happier with doing business here.
Rob L.
Extremely useful for making hidden tang knives!

Order came in super quick. The metal was not warped and was packaged nicely. The website was easy to navigate and looks very nice. Got into knife making during quarantine, finnaly got around to buying proper knife making metal and it works fantastic, it's easy to harden even with a cheap furnace I built in my back yard. Definitely recommend to anyone getting into knife making!

Thank you for selling 1080 steel because literally no one else does.

After receiving the wrong order, I immediately contacted the customer support service of Alec Steele Co. The same day I got a reply which stated I could keep the wrong order and that they already shipped the correct item. Great customer support!

My left handed daughter wanted her own knife and we got this 1080 for her first knife. She went with a Japanese Deba with the traditional single sided sharpening. I'm curious as to how much she will like the left handed sharpening (she's only 7 now) 1080 is easy to work, easy to harden, easy to heat treat and easy to rust. I kinda like the last part. It has taught her that if you want something to last you have to take care of it. Her sister's knife started to take on a patina pretty quickly, but she is so quick to wash, dry, and oil her blade that it looks like it did when we first made it. With this kind of care I'm sure it will last a lifetime with ease. She's used it on cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes so far and the edge is still holding up, much better than the Chicago cutlery knife she previously had taken as her own. I need to make one for myself.

I wanted to make knives since I was a kid, and failed miserably many times as anyone self taught should. When my daughter came up to me and saw me making a Chinese cleaver from and OLD disc. She said she wanted to make a knife so I bought actual knife steel instead of using whatever seemed suitable. It was nice to not have to flatten the metal first. Being her first knife we just cut out a paper outline and then cut it out of the steel. She wanted a Santoku design with a traditional Japanese single sided sharpening. It turned out very nice. Hardening and heat treat was simple and straight forward. The knife has held an edge extremely well. Initially I had it razor sharp and after some use it still has a nice edge(being a meat cutter I have a habit of reaching for my steel and touching up blades before they have any chance to get dull) The only downside is how fast 1080 will rust, we only went down to 30micron finish and I know the more polished it is the slower it is to rusting but with proper care it has been taking on a nice patina.
