Build-A-Knife-Box : Hunter Recurve
This kit will not be restocked. Each Build-A-Knife-Box is a limited edition kit!
Have you ever wanted to build a knife, but you didn't have the right tools?
It can be expensive to set up an entire workshop, and it's hard to know exactly where to start. That's why we created the Build-A-Knife-Box. This is the easiest entry into knife making for a beginner, and a fun kit for those with a practiced hand.
This kit comes with a the following:
- The "Hunter Recurve" blank laser cut by Send Cut Send (3/16" thick 1075 steel)
- 1x Micarta Handle Scale meant to be cut and used as the bolster of the handle (6" x 1.5"x 1/8" )
- 1x Block of desert Ironwood (4.5" x 1.25" x 3/8")
- 1x HSS Black Oxide Jobber Length Drill Bit for helping to create the slot for the tang (3/16")
- The pictured finished knife is NOT included! This is the finished product!
If you already have belts, or want to purchase your own, great! If you'd like to use our specially designed belt and epoxy kit, click HERE!
You start with a knife blank, 3/16" thick 1075 steel. All you need to do is grind the bevels onto the knife, heat treat the blade, create slot for the tang in the Ironwood and the Micarta. After you've done that, you'll profile your handle, glue it all up, and then have an awesome new knife! Done well, you could also sell the knife to make a profit!
Once you've created your knife, be sure to post a photo of it tagging us on Instagram, @alecsteeleco, and using the #buildaknife tag so we can check out your work! We will be picking one winner who contributes to the #BuildAKnife with this design to win $200 to the online store!
A Drill - We supply the bit!
This knife is a hidden tang construction, so no pins are needed. However, using a drillbit the same width as the knife will make creating a slot for the tang much easier!
While a lot of knife making is made easier with a forge, 2x72 grinder, and fancy tools, this knife can be made with the most basic option.
The tools for this project are easy to adapt. You can use what you have and still make a lovely knife at the end of it.
Time and money are finite resources, and we want you to get the most out of both. We are dedicated to providing the best possible service and experience in both the craft, and your interaction with our online store regardless of the circumstances.
