Build-A-Knife-Box : Paring Knife
Have you ever wanted to build a knife, but you didn't have the right tools?
It can be expensive to set up an entire workshop, and it's hard to know exactly where to start. That's why we created the Build-A-Knife-Box. This is the easiest entry into knife making for a beginner, and a fun kit for those with a practiced hand.
This kit comes with a the following:
- The Pre-Normalized "Paring Knife" blank laser cut by Send Cut Send (1/8" thick 1095 steel)
- 2x Nickle Silver pins to be cut into 6 pins (6" x 1/16" )
- 2x Linen Micarta Handle Scales (6" x 1.5" x 3/8")
- 1x HSS Black Oxide Jobber Length Drill Bit for drilling the handle scales (1/16")
- The pictured finished knife is NOT included! This is the finished product!
If you already have belts, or want to purchase your own, great! If you'd like to use our specially designed belt and epoxy kit, click HERE!
You start with a knife blank, 1/8" thick 1095 steel. We even cut the holes into the steel to make your life easier, but you'll need to ream out the holes with the included drill bit and a hand drill to clear up any burrs! All you need to do is grind the bevels onto the knife, cut your pins, and drill holes into the handle scales. After you've done that, you'll profile your handle, glue it all up, and then have an awesome new kitchen knife! (This shape is also a good one for an EDC knife)
Once you've created your knife, be sure to post a photo of it tagging us on Instagram, @alecsteeleco, and using the #buildaknife tag so we can check out your work! We will be picking one winner who contributes to the #BuildAKnife with this design to win $200 to the online store!
A Drill - We supply the bit!
The knife blanks we supply already have holes for pins, you just need to drill the scales!
While a lot of knife making is made easier with a forge, 2x72 grinder, and fancy tools, this knife can be made with the most basic option.
Check out our video below for a complete list of tools and prices you'll need to complete the project. Every other tool is one that you could make or use an alternative method for!
