Ironwood Block 1" x 1 3/4" x 5"
This product comes with 1 block of unfinished ironwood 1" x 1 3/4" x 5". The exact grain of the block will vary between orders, but they will all be of good quality.
ONE BLOCK IN PACK: We've sanded and oiled a block so you can get an idea of what this material can look like finished. On the left is an unfinished block and what you will receive in your order. On the right is an oiled block, sanded to 1000 grit with Rhynowet Redline.
Desert Ironwood is one of our favorite knife handle materials.
It is one of the hardest and most stable woods on earth. It's a naturally stable wood, so it isn't stabilized with epoxy. Sealing the material is still an important step, especially for kitchen utensils. Many thin layers of tru-oil or another sealant/varnish will slow the fading or darkening of the orange and metallic colors.
Its hardness, stability, and rarity make it a commonly sought after wood. These blocks are perfect for cutting into handle scales, or sanding down and hollowing out with a handle broach for a hidden tang design.
